# IP Geo Classification

## **How Link11 Determines Geo Location of IP Addresses**

Link11 leverages the MaxMind database to enrich the requests crossing the Link11 network with the country of origin for each source IP address. This third party data is updated **twice a week** to stay as current as possible with any changes in ownership or assignment for IP ranges.

## **Other Geo IP Databases**

Other commonly used Geo IP databases include but are not limited to:

* [IP2Location](https://www.ip2location.com/)
* [ipstack](https://ipstack.com/)
* [ipinfo.io](https://ipinfo.io/)

In general, IP addresses will resolve to the same geo-location across databases. However, it is possible for a recently moved IP address range to not be updated across all databases at the same time and some may still return the outdated country code for s short while after the range is reassigned. These differences are largely due to the different partners, typically ISPs, each database has, and how often they update their records for public consumption.

## **Notifying MaxMind of Inaccuracies in Geo Location Data**

If an IP range is labeled with incorrect Geo Location data, a ticket can be raised with MaxMind to rectify this issue. Please note that it can take a few days for MaxMind to make these changes.
