# General Settings

The General Settings provide basic configuration abilities for a Web DDoS instance.

## **Name of Web DDoS Protection Instance**

## **Bot Management**

Activates [Bot Management](/product-guides/bot-management.md) and starts detection of bots on the selected WebDDoS instance.&#x20;

## **Default Policy for Bad Bots**

This parameter defines how traffic identified as "bad" bots should be handled by the Bot Management service.&#x20;

The options for the Default Policy are:&#x20;

* Ignore
* Block
* Captcha

**The recommended choice is Captcha**. This will ensure that any False Positives (any human clients that have been incorrectly identified as bots) will not be blocked. Instead, they will be able to complete the captcha and prove that they are legitimate human users.

As the name says, the Default Policy for Bad Bots only applies to traffic sources identified to be bad bots. There are additional ways to use captchas within Web DDoS:

* To display captchas to suspicious IPs, enable [CAPTCHA Defense](/product-guides/web-ddos/interface/instances/ddos-mitigation.md#captcha-defense).
* To display captchas to **all** visitors to specific paths, add those paths to the [Captcha URL list](/product-guides/web-ddos/interface/captcha-url-list.md).
