# CDN Nodes

For compliance or other reasons, sometimes it is necessary to prevent a CDN from storing content in servers within certain countries. The Secure CDN Nodes feature allows admins to do this.

If a country has Link11 nodes located within it, and that country is disallowed in the CDN Nodes list, those CDN nodes will not cache any content for the specified instance(s), nor will end users of the instance(s) connect to those nodes.

This feature does not control which users can access the CDN (which is done using [Geo Blocking](/product-guides/web-ddos/interface/geo-blocking.md)). The CDN Nodes feature is for controlling where CDN content is physically hosted.

The settings on this page will only apply to the selected instance. To manage nodes across multiple instances, each instance must be configured separately.

## Interface

The CDN Nodes page includes a map which displays the locations of all Link11 Secure CDN nodes, shown as black dots. The countries, if any, which are being prevented from hosting content are shown in red.

Admins can allow or disallow individual countries, or all countries in specific regions.

## Configuration

### Select Instance

This determines the instance upon which the settings below will be applied.

### Default Country

Sometimes, a user cannot connect normally to the CDN, and a fallback mechanism becomes necessary. Examples:

* The CDN nodes which are closest to a user are within a country that has been disallowed.
* A user's location cannot be accurately determined, so the system cannot determine the optimal CDN node to use.

In situations such as these, the Default Country specifies which country's nodes should serve the user. This setting is required, and the CDN Regions & Country section will not be available until a selection is made.

The optimal choice for the Default Country is the one closest to the largest number of users.

**After selecting or changing this setting, select Save** before continuing to edit the CDN Regions & Country section. Otherwise, that section will act in accordance with the previously selected Default Country, which might cause unexpected behavior (such as edits being reverted).

### CDN Regions & Country

This section allows admins to allow or disallow all CDN nodes in individual countries, or within all countries in one or more regions. Toggle controls display `ON` when a country/region is allowed to host content, and `OFF` when it is not.

Note that it is not possible to disallow the country that is currently selected as the Default Country, or the entire region in which it resides. (Attempting to disallow its region will result in all other countries in that region being disallowed, but the Default will remain allowed.)
