# Setup

## Prerequisites

1. Bot Management is an extension of Link11’s Web DDoS Protection service; thus, this service is required in order to use Bot Management.
2. Web DDoS cannot be in [TLS Passthrough mode](/product-guides/web-ddos/interface/instances/tls-settings.md#tls-passthrough).
3. After the Bot Management service has been purchased, the Link11 CSM team must activate it.

## Setup

Once CSM has enabled Bot Management, the following steps are available in, and must be done for, each instance of Web DDoS.

1. Enable Bot Management in Web DDoS' [Instances / General Settings](/product-guides/web-ddos/interface/instances/general-settings.md#bot-management).
2. On the same page, select the [Default Policy for Bad Bots](/product-guides/web-ddos/interface/instances/general-settings.md#default-policy-for-bad-bots) (**Recaptcha** is the recommended choice)

## Customizing Bot Management's classification behavior

Once the above steps have been completed for each Web DDoS instance, further customization of Bot Management's classification process can be done via [Bot Management Rules](/product-guides/bot-management/interface/rules.md).
